  12. Thesis Statement: In today’s society, individuals are very quick to attach the term “obsessive compulsive” to somewhat rigid behaviors, or label extremely organized/hygenic individuals as “obsessive compulsive”. This very loose interpretation of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a result of modern media’s portrayal of OCD. Main Points:

    I. Common perceptions of obsessive compulsive behavior
    a. Popular shows and networks (True Life, A&E, VH1) among the young adult population, which exploit the debilitating nature of OCD for entertainment purposes, taking a degree of seriousness away from the disorder.
    b. Stereotyped notions of “obsession” among young adults: common perception of obsession as a choice… For instance, obsession with Orlando Bloom ;) or Yogurtland.

    II. What is OCD?
    a. Definition, symptoms, and severity
    b. Behavioral inflexibility: OCD is not a matter or choice, but the result of a particular brain deficiency
